True Love Waits 1 Adult Youth Leader Training (Faith Based or Secular)

The youth leader and/or True Love Waits 1 (TLW 1) team of a given school, youth group, church, etc., lead young people through a five (5) session program, which include discussion, worksheets, and videos to impart the message that True Love Waits for marriage.  Ideally, the five sessions are scheduled for five consecutive weeks.  Each session has been designed to be one and a half hours long. The TLW 1 program concludes with a commitment ceremony which can be incorporated either into a church service, Mass, or can be a stand-alone event. 

Since it is the parents’ duty to be the primary educators of their children regarding sex, parents are strongly encouraged to participate in the TLW 1 program with their children. The TLW 1 program commences with a kick-off meeting for parents to summarize and discuss the entire program. Parents can then reinforce the purity principles discussed during the program with their adolescents at home.

Session 3:  Sexually Transmitted Diseases [STD’s]

  • Condom failure rates & “safe sex” lies          

  • Most common STD’s/Medical Institute for Sexual Health     

  • Questions and Answers (Single sex groups)

Session 4:  Life is Precious (See Note)

  • Life is sacred because we are made in God’s image (Faith-based version)

  • Humanity of the unborn child / Inhumanity of abortion

  • Consequences of abortion: Emotional & Physical

  • God’s willingness to forgive / Post-abortion healing (Faith-based version)

  • Skills in helping a friend in an unexpected pregnancy situation

Session 5:  Making a Purity Decision and Standing Firm

  • Sexuality is a gift from God (Faith-based version)

  • Consequences of getting physical in dating relationships

  • Touch scale/Modesty in dress and speech

  • Setting high standards/Dating issues

  • Resisting peer pressure/Assertiveness skills

  • Making a decision to be pure/Pledge signing
